Show & Tell: Texas Star Bluebonnet

In Learning Center, Show and Tell by jfischerLeave a Comment

One of my resolutions for 2016 is to visit at least one State Park (of any State) each month, and thus, it’s been a great resolution to plan and peruse. As luck and timing would have it, I was able to get my April visit checked off on the very first day of the month with a last minute impromptu run to Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma. The sunset forecast on SunsetWX.com said the colors were supposed to be spectacular close to the border vs closer to home in …

Show & Tell: Star Trails at Tyler State Park

In Astrophotography, Learning Center, Show and Tell, Texas State Parks by jfischer4 Comments

An usually warm end of January, even by Texas standards, presented me with a unique opportunity in 2016. With clear skies in the forecast a chance to get an early start to both my camping season and astrophotography year was too good to pass up. On a previous trip I had scouted a location along the shore of Tyler State Park which I felt had potential for a star trail sequence, so the race was on to get a camp site as close to the shoot location as possible.  With …

Show & Tell: Lake Bob Sandlin Sunrise #2

In Learning Center, Show and Tell by jfischerLeave a Comment

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park sits nearly 2 hrs east of my home near Dallas Texas. However, my friend and fellow photographer Elizabeth Jamison said she was certain it would be a sunrise worth getting up for. So with coffee in hand we hit …

Overview As eluded to in the first post (Cleburne State Park) in this series covering my spring photo trip, Dinosaur Valley State Park was my actual intended target for my first stop along my route through Texas.  Unfortunately I was unable to get a camping site at the park, however I did do a quick drive through the camping area and found the area to be quite nice and certainly on my list for a future weekend or longer camping trip.  If you’re looking for a State Park to visit …

Cleburne State Park – Spring Trip Review

In General, Learning Center, Texas State Parks, Travel by jfischer1 Comment

On April 9th I departed on my spring photo tour which I discussed in a number of my earlier posts.  During the following 9 days, I visited a half-dozen different State Parks and numerous other photographic locations through the state.  To make the ensure that the review of the trip is as helpful to those who may read it, I’ll be covering them by location instead of by the timeline of the trip.  I will however start with the first park I visited – Cleburne State Park. Overview My first …

The PNW Chronicles: Waterfalls (Part II)

In PNW, Travel, Trip Reports by jfischerLeave a Comment

In the last post, Waterfalls Part I, I centered the conversation around the challenges that come with photographing the unique beauty of waterfalls.  In this part I will go into more detail on the specific waterfalls I visited during my 2014 trip to the Pacific Northwest, why I chose those falls, and information on those specific locations.  While my trip started out in Seattle, the majority of my time was spent in Oregon and that is where all the waterfalls I visited are located.  While Washington has its own share of beautiful …
