2016 Fischer Photography Landscape Calendar

In General, News by jfischerLeave a Comment

With the continued success of my 2015 Landscape calendar sales last year, I am continuing the tradition and putting together a 2016 edition.  I have decided that I will most likely only offer the Landscape Edition calendar this year so that do not split my attention in too many directions and ensure I put out the best calendar possible. I am still working on figuring out a solution to get the location information of each photo within the calendar this year.  It is an addition that I know everyone wants and I …

Dinosaur Valley State Park – Spring Trip Review

In General, News, Texas State Parks, Travel by jfischerLeave a Comment

Overview As eluded to in the first post (Cleburne State Park) in this series covering my spring photo trip, Dinosaur Valley State Park was my actual intended target for my first stop along my route through Texas.  Unfortunately I was unable to get a camping site at the park, however I did do a quick drive through the camping area and found the area to be quite nice and certainly on my list for a future weekend or longer camping trip.  If you’re looking for a State Park to visit …

Thistles in Monochrome

In Gallery Collection, Learning Center, Show and Tell, Tips and tricks by jfischerLeave a Comment

Flowers are not usually the first subject one would think about converting to black & white or another monochrome look.  I mean, they are full of color, bursting with beautiful hues of red and yellows, purples, blues, almost any color under the sun.  So why would you ever strip away the color.  Simply because without the color, it becomes the lines and shapes of the flower that now becomes the art.  Often suggested as a way to help improve a photographer’s composition skills, but I like to take to the monochrome options …

On April 9th I departed on my spring photo tour which I discussed in a number of my earlier posts.  During the following 9 days, I visited a half-dozen different State Parks and numerous other photographic locations through the state.  To make the ensure that the review of the trip is as helpful to those who may read it, I’ll be covering them by location instead of by the timeline of the trip.  I will however start with the first park I visited – Cleburne State Park. Overview My first …

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge

In Gallery Collection, General, Show and Tell, Travel by jfischerLeave a Comment

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge is best known as a wildlife destination.  It’s seasonal migrations of birds ranging from thousands of snow geese to flights of song birds are the real reason the Refuge exists.  And for a wildlife photographer in the North Texas area, it is one of the best locations to shoot.  I’ll be the first to admit that I am not much of a wildlife photographer, not that I won’t try when the opportunity comes up, but it is by far not my primary focus nor an area …

Friends of Hagerman Photographer of the Month – Feb. 2015

In Gallery Collection, General, News by jfischerLeave a Comment

Wow where has the last month and a half gone?  I very much intended to post this back in February and here it is nearly the end of March.  So, without further adieu – In February I was honored by the Friends of Hagerman National Wildlife Preserve as their February Photographer of the Month.  Joining the ranks of some spectacular wildlife and nature photographers throughout the North Texas (and likely Oklahoma) area, I was invited to submit 12 of my photos taken at Hagerman for inclusion in their online gallery …
